Assistant Professor in Biochemistry

The Department of Biochemistry at the University of California, Riverside invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the level of Assistant Professor, in the general area of molecular biology and translational biochemistry, including, but not limited to RNA biology, metabolomics, computational biology/drug discovery, biomolecular catalysis/biophysics, gene expression/epigenetics, or genome stability. The position will build on existing strengths of the Department in structural, molecular, and cellular biology, and will benefit from the cutting-edge facilities for genomics, proteomics, metabolomics, microscopy, and high-throughput small molecule and genetic screening.

The UC salary consists of a base pay of $86,500 to $112,800 for Assistant Professors and additional off-scale to be commensurate with market value, qualifications and experiences. The off-scale portion of the salary will be maintained as long as satisfactory academic progress is made. Additionally, the off-scale will be maintained subject to market adjustments to the UC salary scale. Basic qualifications for this position that must be met by the date of application include: Ph.D., M.D., or an equivalent degree in biochemistry, biophysics, molecular or cellular biology, or a related field.

Additional qualifications for this position that must be met by the date of hire include: The successful candidate will have a record of original research accomplishments; will be expected to develop a vigorous, independent, and internationally recognized research program that is able to attract extramural funding; will develop and teach graduate and undergraduate courses; will advise and mentor graduate and undergraduate students; and will engage in both campus and professional service activities.

Advancement through the Assistant Professor of Biochemistry ranks at the University of California is through a series of structured, merit-based evaluations, occurring every 2-3 years each of which includes substantial peer input.
