About the job

The  Department of Theatre and Dance  is home to faculty and staff members dedicated to providing undergraduate performers, designers, technicians, directors, educators, and creators with engaging and meaningful experiences. The successful candidate will, in collaboration with current faculty, seek to make Fredonia's programs more active, focused, and career-oriented in all areas of theatre.

KEY RESPONSBILITIES

Reporting to the Chair, the successful candidate will:

  • Teach courses in the department's acting and directing sequence (BFA and BA), and other performance courses as applicable and qualified;
  • Coordinate the yearly BFA performance showcase in NYC;
  • Participate in the department's governing process by attending department meetings and serving on committees as assigned;
  • Mentor students on performance projects and recitals outside of class time;
  • Participate in student assessment through semester juries, recitals and other projects;
  • Provide academic advisement to students;
  • Participate in recruitment and auditioning student applicants to the department;
  • Contribute to curriculum development and refinement;
  • Participate in committees and provide service to the university and the profession;
  • Encourage a positive work environment and the achievement of high standards;
  • Be aware of, understand, and follow all university policies.

This is a full-time, term appointed, tenure track position beginning September 1, 2026 at an annual salary of $50,063-$57,000, commensurate with experience.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • MFA or PhD in a Theatre or Theatre-related discipline from an accredited institution by August 2026;
  • University Teaching Experience;
  • Directing Experience at the University Level and/or Professional Level;
  • Acting Experience at the University and/or Professional level;
  • Demonstrated commitment and ability to work with a diverse group of students, faculty, staff and constituents in support of both the campus and department's mission.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Business of Acting / Acting for Media experience at the university and/or professional level;
  • Professional acting and/or directing credits with union affiliation;
  • Professional experience and teaching expertise which may include Business of Acting, Acting for Media, Acting Styles, Dialects, Movement, Musical Theatre, or other specializations.
