JOB SUMMARY:

The department of Art and Art History at Adelphi University invites applications for a new Assistant Professor tenure-track position in Art Education, starting Fall 2026.

This Assistant Professor of Art Education role involves teaching undergraduate art education courses, mentoring students, supervising student teachers, and developing curriculum. It also includes engaging in research, creative activities, and service to the department, institution, and the art education community. The position works closely with the Art and Art History program, especially the Studio Art BFA program and its faculty. Key duties include curriculum design, promoting student success in diverse classrooms, maintaining scholarly or creative work, participating in faculty governance, and collaborating on interdisciplinary projects.

Adelphi is reviewing the recent governmental changes to the H1B process and is encouraging all qualified candidates to apply.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Administrative tasks may include overseeing undergraduate programs in Art Education
  2. participating in New York State Board of Education program reviews
  3. interacting with schools, communities, and constituencies, and developing collaborative programs within the studio art department.
  4. Candidates may also take on placement coordinator duties.
  5. Candidates are expected to maintain professional scholarly or creative output, represent the department in local, regional, and national forums, and contribute service to the department, institution, and community.


Core Responsibilities

  1. Teaching and Curriculum: Deliver undergraduate and graduate courses, including methods and licensure classes.
  2. Student Mentorship & Supervision: Advise and mentor students, supervise student teaching and practical experiences, and support student career development.
  3. Curriculum Development: Create new curricula and improve existing ones.
  4. Research & Creative Activity: Participate in research, creative production, and scholarly efforts that advance the field of art education.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Candidates should hold a terminal degree in art education or a related discipline, such as a PhD or EdD.
  2. The ideal candidate will be prepared to teach art education seminars and core courses in the undergraduate program (including licensure courses), develop and refine curricula, supervise thesis projects and fieldwork, and advise students pursuing careers in art education and related fields.
  3. Applicants should have at least five years of teaching experience in K-12 education, along with three years of teaching at the academic level .

SALARY INFORMATION:

In compliance with New York's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $80,000 - $82,000. Adelphi University considers factors such as departmental budgets, scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. An annual base salary higher than the range may be warranted in circumstances where a candidate has demonstrable equivalent prior higher education experience at another University.
