About the job

Description

The Asset Reservoir Engineer will be responsible for providing reservoir engineering analysis to support Fervo Energy’s geothermal development activities. This position will play a key role in shaping the development strategy, evaluating reservoir performance, and improving capital efficiency across Fervo’s growing project portfolio. Responsibilities will include well completion and stimulation treatment design optimization, asset development planning, economic evaluations, reservoir simulation to perform history matching, production forecasting, and reservoir management optimization. The Asset Reservoir Engineer will design and implement well testing, reservoir monitoring, and other data acquisition programs to continuously improve Fervo’s field operations. This position will report to the Director of Resource.

Requirements

Data Analysis & Interpretation

  • Interpret stimulation data (e.g., step-down tests and ISIPs) to inform completion design recommendations
  • Analyze production and injection data, including pressure transient data, rate-transient data, diagnostic fracture injection test (DFIT) data, and tracers
  • Conduct uncertainty quantification studies for reservoir field diagnostic tests and well performance

Field Operations Support

  • Lead stimulation data collection planning, and analyze real-time data to inform design changes
  • Use reservoir simulation and field data to support operational decisions
  • Develop and implement data acquisition and well testing, including 2-phase flow, programs for Fervo field projects; develop well testing procedures and analyze field data
  • Support pad facilities and power plant design decisions based on well performance and forecasts

Reservoir Simulation & Forecasting

  • Collaborate with subsurface and engineering teams to conduct model optimization studies, driving well enhancements for future development
  • Use production forecasts to evaluate various reservoir management strategies and development plans
  • Evaluate economic and profitability potential of asset plans and development scenarios
  • History match geothermal reservoir simulation models based on field-wide stimulation and production data
  • Prepare comprehensive technical evaluations with recommendations
  • Participate in industry meetings and conferences

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in engineering
  • 6+ years of engineering experience in the oil and gas or geothermal industries
  • 2+ years of field experience in oil and gas, geothermal, or similar operations
  • Experience running commercial reservoir simulation software including ResFrac, Eclipse, CMG, Tough2, or TETRAD
  • Experience running commercial or research hydraulic fracture simulation software, including GOHFER, Kinetix, ResFrac, StimPlan, or FrackOptima
  • Knowledge of geomechanics and thermodynamics, including 2-phase flow
  • Proficient in Python programming for data analysis
  • Experience in data analytics with Spotfire or Power BI
  • Willing to travel up to 15% for fieldwork and occasional visits to other Fervo offices.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in hydraulic fracturing, well stimulation techniques in unconventional oil and gas
  • Experience in geothermal testing and interpretation of conventional hydrothermal systems (e.g. 2-phase flow testing and system design, James Tube analysis, tracers)
  • Experience running and interpretating flowing/static pressure/temperature surveys
  • Experience with 2-phase borehole simulation software
  • Experience interpreting and model hydrologic tracer results
  • Experience running coupled heat-mass- transport models, such as in TOUGH2
  • Experience with geothermal wellbore interventions such as thermal stimulation, acid stimulation, coil tubing and air lift.
  • Monitoring pressure-transient responses in saturated and 2-phase geothermal reservoirs
  • Diagnose reservoir issues such as permeability zones behind casing, cold water infiltration, steam zones, reduced near wellbore permeability, scaling

Location

Fervo Energy is headquartered in Houston, TX with growing offices in Golden, Oakland, Reno, and Salt Lake City. This position will be eligible for some hybrid work flexibility, but regular in-office presence at the Golden office location is preferred. Travel will be required for this position
