Joby Overview

Located in Northern California, the team at Joby Aviation is driven by our goal of creating an affordable, all-electric air transportation system. Imagine a piloted air taxi that takes off vertically, then quietly carries you and your fellow passengers over the congested city streets below, enabling you to spend more time with the people and places that matter most. Since 2009, our team has worked steadily to make this dream a reality. We’ve designed and tested many generations of prototype aircraft capable of serving in a network of electric air taxis. We’re looking for talented, committed individuals to join our team as we push onwards toward certifying the Joby aircraft with the Federal Aviation Administration, scaling our manufacturing, and launching our initial commercial service.

Overview

Joby is seeking an experienced aircraft maintenance professional to deliver training to a broad spectrum of maintenance students, apprentices, and technicians. This role presents an exciting opportunity to support the full scope of maintenance training at Joby, including a publicly-available Light Sport Repairman Maintenance (LSRM) certification course, on-the-job training for apprentices pursuing an Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) certification, assembly of light sport aircraft (LSA) builds, and delivering training on Joby’s novel electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft. The successful candidate will play a key role in shaping the next generation of maintenance professionals in the emerging Advanced Air Mobility industry.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver LSRM Training: Conduct instructor-led training sessions for LSRM certification, ensuring compliance with regulatory and industry standards.
  • Deliver On-the-Job Training Curriculum: Deliver structured hands-on training programs that provide practical experience in aircraft maintenance and assembly.
  • Lead LSA Aircraft Build: Guide trainees through the step-by-step construction of a Van’s RV-12 LSA, reinforcing best practices in maintenance, assembly, and safety.
  • Collaborate with Stakeholders: Work closely with engineers, maintenance technicians, and regulatory experts to ensure training aligns with industry needs and evolving technologies.
  • Promote a Safety Culture: Instill a strong emphasis on safety, quality, and compliance in all training activities.
  • Evaluate Training Effectiveness: Continuously assess trainee performance and adapt instructional methods to enhance learning outcomes.
  • Support Additional Maintenance Activities: As needed, assist with maintenance tasks on conventional and eVTOL aircraft, following established procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • FAA Mechanic Certificate with an Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) rating.
  • Minimum 5 years experience working on general aviation aircraft of 6,000 pounds or less or an FAA DAR with function codes 46, 47, or 48.
  • Willingness to travel.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Able to work permanently in the USA and willing to work daily in Watsonville and Marina, California.

Desired

  • Experience maintaining light sport aircraft and/or Rotax engines.
  • Experience building light sport aircraft.
  • Experience with FAA-approved training programs for the certification of aircraft mechanics (14 CFR Parts 65 or 147).
