As a dynamic and growing organization, we’re looking for a motivated Accounting Intern to join our team and gain hands-on experience in real estate accounting.
What You'll Do
As a paid intern, you'll gain valuable hands-on experience in a professional setting, guided by our experienced team members. You’ll play a crucial role in various aspects of accounting, including, but not limited to:
- Monthly Close Support: Complete bank, credit card, and escrow reconciliations accurately and on time. Validate assigned accounts (prepaid, accrued, reserve) with clear documentation and minimal revisions.
- Accounts Payable Accuracy: Process vendor invoices in AppFolio with correct GL coding, property tagging, and capitalization vs. expense classification. Maintain an invoice error rate below 5% and promptly follow up on discrepancies.
- Accounts Receivable Accuracy: Conduct AR reconciliations and tenant ledger reviews monthly with accurate documentation. Identify and resolve discrepancies within one business week.
- Learning & Professional Development: Demonstrate growing proficiency in Excel, AppFolio, and property accounting workflows. Build understanding of accounting principles and how they apply to real estate operations.
What We're Looking For
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (Junior or Senior status preferred).
- Technical Accuracy: Strong attention to detail and consistency in reconciliations and data entry.
- Analytical Thinking: Understands how transactions affect financial outcomes.
- Communication: Clearly documents findings and collaborates effectively with the accounting team.
- Organization: Manages tasks efficiently and meets deadlines.
- Integrity & Confidentiality: Handles financial data responsibly and ethically.
- A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation

Internship Details
- Duration: 2 programs available — one running March through August and another from May/June through August
- Compensation: Paid internship at $15 per hour
- Schedule: Flexible hours, typically Monday through Friday during business hours
- Location: On-site at our Sioux Falls, SD Headquarters
