Academic Counselor

Job Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Academic Counselor to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for providing academic guidance, support, and resources to students, ensuring they are on track to meet their academic goals and succeed in their studies. The Academic Counselor will work closely with students, faculty, and staff to foster a positive and productive academic environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide academic counseling to students, offering advice on course selection, academic planning, and career goals.
• Monitor and assess students' academic progress, identify any issues or concerns, and provide appropriate interventions or support.
• Assist students in developing effective study habits, time management skills, and strategies to enhance their academic performance.
• Collaborate with faculty and other departments to create support systems for students who may be struggling academically.
• Organize and conduct individual or group workshops on academic skills development, test-taking strategies, and other relevant topics.
• Maintain confidential records and documentation of counseling sessions and student progress.
• Provide information about academic policies, procedures, and available resources (e.g., tutoring, scholarships, academic accommodations).
• Assist in preparing students for their post-graduation plans, including career counseling, internship opportunities, and graduate school applications.
• Stay updated on academic trends, program requirements, and institutional changes to ensure accurate advising.
• Support and promote student engagement in extracurricular activities that enhance personal and professional growth.
• Act as a liaison between students and administrative departments to resolve academic concerns or disputes.
• Conduct regular follow-ups with students to ensure their academic success and well-being.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Education, Psychology, Counseling, or related field (Master's degree preferred).
• Strong understanding of academic policies, course structures, and career development.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and counseling skills.
• Ability to work effectively with students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills.
• Compassionate, patient, and approachable demeanor.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and student management software.

Preferred Skills:

• Experience in advising at the high school or university level.
• Knowledge of learning disabilities or special academic needs.
• Experience in leading workshops or group counseling sessions.
• Certification in academic counseling or a related field.
